A new job

In two weeks I'll be presenting my project and then it'll be over. In the meantime, I try to look for new hobbies. Today I have found something really satisfying: becoming my grandparents' gardener. Moving over the green on a lawnmower pace and leaving a green carpet as my trace it's one of the most relaxing things done ever...Now I just need to wait for one month for the grass to grow again!

Tennis Holes

I'm almost done with my project, but more than one month left to hand it, so it's time to do something else, like playing tennis. I managed to classify for the final round of my club's amateur league (3rd division) with good feelings on my racket. But there is little to do when it comes to winning and I have spent most of my childhood in a handball club where winning wasn't a goal. So every time I had the matchpoint right there, I started playing with my handball spirit and I had no chance.

I think I can start collecting shoe holes instead of trophies :P

Now the best idea is to rest and think about it away from the city, visiting my friend Joaco who's teaching in a little town in the mountains.

Poppies

I'm amazed by the colour of these flowers...scattered all over the center of Spain with that intesity.

Now it's time to finish my project, I'm almost there, and then...time to start planning holidays :)

Comunidad

"Por segunda vez: Se pide a las
personas que utilicen adecuadamente
los servicios y no dejen ascensores.
como pasa todos los días.
Comunidad"

Community

This is the text I found on the entrance to my building:

"For the second time: Please use services
properly and don't leave elevators.
as everyday.
Community"

I keep trying to find out the meaning. Perhaps the author may have missed some words, or he might be too intelligent for us, or the Community is just a allmighty being and doesn't have to explain things.

Living on a flat it's a very interesting social experience: You share the same roof with many people, who you have spent days inside the lift with. And who you have nothing in common with.

I'd better keep this friendship in the same way so nothing changes....At least I'll promise to use services properly!

A life of bars

All day writing about my project. I wish I could write something more fantastic...
This is a good description of my life these days...weeks and bars. At least the days when I escape are not part of the chart :)

A weekend in the Madrid 'Movida'

Tuesday, April the 17th, 2007

I have given up working on my project. I have become a writer, a boring one. Now it's time to write. All about my project. Just that.

I have had also some time to live my writing and coding at home and spend some days in Madrid. Los Planetas (one of my favourite spanish poprock bands) were playing their new album and Guillo had a 'Movida' party...At the end nothing turned out as expected, but another acoustic concert we attended during Saturday afternoon paid off for the rest of events.

La Riviera. Ahí iban a estar los planetas esa noche...qué nervios!

La Riviera. The place where Los Planetas would play that night..I was so looking forward to it!!!

In Madrid you can find free hugs and free Mexicans...a little of everything

Deluxe introduced his new album in a big music shop. Pure luxury. Just a guitar, another musician playing keyboard and new songs I enjoyed with his great voice live

When fame gets deep inside an artist, strange things start to happen. For example, using as a warm up band a south Spanish family named Prin La Lá in a pop audience gig. But who doesn't like hearing familiar voices?

Los Planetas, live, with their new flamenco style. They are genious!

J (Los Planetas leader) was exhausted after performing the complete new album, but creating such high quality music is exhausting!

The music hall for Los Planetas was waikiki style...cool!

Individuals named with initials A.B.C. and D.E.F. attended the party as shown above.

A sample pic from the party...I'm not used nor ready for this kind of parties.

Coming back home means crossing Castilla: I don't understand why my grandma loves it so much. This desert-like scenery with endless horizon just makes me feel desolated.

A little of life

Sunday, March the 11th, 2007

Too long without news, too long with my project, just wasted time. Some good escapes enjoying life again:

Gijón carnival: I've never thought of so many people getting dressed like a football player in the same night...at least my friends know what to wear.

Trip to trabanco, Gijón outskirts, to enjoy some good food: good company, beautiful landscape and tasteful food...do you need anything else?

Maybe walking to Fano, where the most famous spanish pilot lives.

It was hard to convince him, but Javi managed to...he almost made it for the picture

Todos le esperaban

Everyone awaiting..

Por fin! Qué sonrisa de satisfacción al volante. Cómo le gusta conducir.

Finally! Smiling satisfaction while driving. He loves driving.

Later a week in Madrid on holidays. Javi know how to welcome his friends. I had time to do a little bit of everything, but working on my project. Even time to see some kangaroos fighting. They were not the only ones looking for fighting in the capital, but everyone reached home safe and sound. The worst part was to dash in the metro to get the bus to Gijón. Getting there at 4 when the bus leaves at 4 is not the best idea in the world...

This last Saturday I followed my cousin's Nico steps. He loves bodyboard, and adventure. We were searching the best european wave for bodyboarding...A perfect excuse to enjoy Asturias, the green and the sea.

We found it: the sea was a little too rough, but there it was.

Nico and me for the official pic before fighting against the waves.

Saturday, February the 17th, 2007

Already three weeks here. With a little of pain trying to adapt to my new relaxed life and a little of satisfaction when I see I start to enjoy Gijón again.

Here are some images taken from my new life: many windows I look through when I get tired of working on my project and some animals I see on my weekly trip to visit my advisor.

A veces hay fuego en el cielo

Sometimes there is fire in the sky

Otras, cruces

Sometimes, crossings

On my walk to the university, everyone seems to enjoy looking from the river fence. There must be something with the river...

Efficient decoration time

Wednesday, January 10th

A busy morning. Esteban and me didn't wake up at 5 by ourselves, like our boss expected, but we did wake up at 6 by the alarm clock. By 7 he had given us a ride to the university so we could finish the work to be delivered by 10 in the morning.

After 10 the day was all about fixing this or that, until Brianna called me. She is our landlord and resembles Bridget Jones. She was contacting me to let me know she was going to show our apartment in 2 hours!!!
Where 3 people pay, shouldn't live 4, so Stebi and me started running home to find a fast way of redecorating the house for 3 only...

We were not sure how to do that, but once we started doing it, we thought about little details (just as if Javi was there suggesting foxy ideas). Finally we left the place without any trace and even left the doors in different specific positions so we could tell if someone had entered the house or not.

(on the pic: Find the 8 differences
Learn with Stebi and me how to change a room in few minutes and get Brianna confused.s
It's all about having spare tvs and chairs in the house after all!!)

Last days in Pittsburgh

I decided to leave here my last days in Pittsburgh little by little. Strange days, but also with some great last experiences.

Tuesday, January 9th

Stebi and me met in Barajas airport, Madrid to start a new stage of our Pittsburgh life. Before taking the plane it was time to tell Esteban how I had changed my mind. Besides that, we had some hard work to do right after our arrival in Pittsburgh, so we didn't start very energetic that trip.

We got to Philadelphia and we sat tired waiting for the next flight. Stebi got a voice mail: Fernando wanted us to work that night because we had a deadline the next morning.

Then, a sparrow crossed right in front of us. A lady came and explained us how this little bird was inside the airport for one year. She took care of him and had a glass of water for him to drink some. This situation put us right where we where: America, the place where you always find someone authentic people that can get to your heart in unique ways. Some are good ways and some others bad.

When Stebi and me got to Pittsburgh was a snowy night. We were dead. While riding the bus on the way home we talked with our boss he decided it was better to get up early the next morning to finish the work...good start in Pittsburgh!

Change of Mind

I know it is a little late to be back, but I have always used this blog to show my everyday life stories here and there.

And this last month has been different. A plan was created, or even better, a plan was changed, and then, it was carried out. Now everything is over.

Everything started during xmas at home. I went to talk with my advisor and then I realized I was doing something I didn't like so much, and being 5000km away wasn't worthwhile if I wasn't happy with what I was doing. It was easy to decide to change my direction regarding what I was doing, but it was not easy at all to say see you later to all the people I met there. I will miss my beloved P4 and all the other who shared our life during this experience. I'm missing you and I'm already looking forward to seeing you again.

Pittsburgh dream is over and now I wake up every morning in Gijon and I work on my thesis at home...almost the same lifestyle I was carrying around 2 years ago. It's time for recalling all those great times with great people in new cool places, re-enjoying them, and learning from it to enjoy the present.

So here is another new stage of my blog with my comingbackhome life in Gijon: WELCOME ALL!
