Llegó el miércoles y en medio de tanto ajetreo derivado de Halloween, hicimos una pausa para nuestro primer (y espero que último) encuentro con la NBA. Los Dallas se habían acercado hasta Pittsburgh a jugar un amistoso contra Cleveland (el equipo más cercando de aquí). Todo gracias a que el dueño de Dallas es de Pittsburgh. Tengo que reconocer que no me gusta demasiado el baloncesto, pero aun así, creo que tengo suficiente juicio como para asegurar que la forma de vender el baloncesto americana es peor.
Ponen tanto espectáculo de por medio, que se olvidan casi del partido en sí. Soporífero ver como el juego se para cada poco para que dos con barriga cervezera intenten meter un triple o algo así para que les regalen un coche...
NBA during the week
On Wednesday, while having a little break from Halloween, it was time to enjoy our first NBA game (hopefully the last one). Dallas visited Pittsburgh for a preseason game against Cleveland (the closest NBA team from here). The Dallas owner is from Pittsburgh, that might be the only reason for this game to be played.
I don't like basketball so much, but anyway, I think the american way it's just worse. So many extra stuff around the game just makes it loose all the atmosphere and intensity of the game. It's really boring to watch a game where every single minute there is a break so some beer belly guys challenge to make some 3pointers and win a prize...

El partido tuvo lugar en el mellon arena, casa de los Pittsburgh Penguins, el equipo de hockey sobre hielo. En el techo recordaban a sus grandes estrellas. Quién no se acuerda de Lemieux???
The NBA game was held in the mellon arena, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the hockey team. On the ceiling, great stars were still mentioned. Who hasn't heard of Lemieux??

Un mal lunes
El lunes Peter se marchaba por la mañana pero decidimos madrugar para disfrutar de un desayuno americano todos juntos antes de ir a la oficina. Pero nuestro maravilloso todoterreno tenía otros planes: al final acabé esperando más de 3 horas en un terrible frío a que viniesen los mecánicos. No hubo manera de sacar la rueda por mis propios medios. Ahora ya se como se hace: solo necesitas una gran estaca de madera y pegarle unos buenos golpes por detrás...Resultado: a las 2 estaba entrando a trabajar. :P

Peter was leaving monday morning but we decided to wake up early and have some american breakfast all together. Unfortunately, our car had some other plans for us. I ended up waiting for 3 hours til the road service arrived. I was not able to remove the flat wheel. Now I know that the only thing you need is to have a big wood stick and hit it from the inside of the car...Result: starting to work around 2pm

Excursión nocturna
Después de la cena en la iglesia decidimos aprovechar el coche para dar una vuelta nocturna por la ciudad y disfrutar de las vistas de Mount Washington de noche. Qué bonito!!!

A pesar de sonreir tanto, me da un poco de verguenza pagar 1 galón (casi 4 litros) a ese precio con la tarjeta del super. Con estos precios está claro que la sociedad americana no puede cambiar de medio de transporte. No me podía creer que estaba llenando el depósito de un todo terreno por el mismo precio que me costaba rellenar el deposito de mi moto!!!
Despite my smiling face, I was embarrased to pay that amount of money for 1 gallon (almost 4 litres) with the discount of the supermarket card. With these prices it's impossible for the usa people to change their means of transport. I couldn't believe I was paying the same amount to fill the tank of a suv here, than my mopped at home.
La iglesia cervecería
Pittsburgh tiene cosas especiales y extrañas. Una iglesia cervecería no puede faltar en su catálogo de rarezas, así que para cenar el domingo echamos un vistazo como podía ser el resultado. Lo incluiría en la categoría profanaciones, pero por lo menos se aprovecha una iglesia de las tantas que hay desaprovechadas por aquí. También hay una iglesia-disco, pero eso ya me parece ir demasiado lejos.
The church brewery
Pittsburgh is crowded of rarities and weird stuff. A church converted into a brewery is on the list, so we decided to give it a try for sunday dinner. I would say it's a profanation, but not as bad as the disco-church you can find somewhere else in town. There are too many churches and not all are being used. That's the problem with this city.

Descomunal. No hay otro calificativo para el "colossal fish". La idea de esta tienda de bocadillos es ahorrar tiempo y no tener que lavarse las manos. Para ello se inventaron estos bocadillos que tienen todo metido dentro del pan (patatas y ensalada incluida). Un buen escondite...
Huge. No other word can describe better the 'colossal fish'. In order to save time and avoinding hand washing, all sandwiches sold on this shop include everything inside, even fries and salad. A good place to hide...
The incline
El domingo no iba a ser menos, asi que cogimos el coche y fuimos hasta Mount Washington, el mejor sitio para observar la imponente ciudad. Sin palabras. De paso nos dimos un paseo para llegar a the point, el lugar más emblemático de la ciudad donde se juntan los dos ríos.
On Sunday, more turisim. We took the car to get to Mount Washington, the best place to watch the amazing city. No coment. We also took a walk to observe closer one of the most important places of the city, the poing, where the two rivers meet.

The incline es la forma de ver la ciudad de modo espectacular. Por el camino se pueden divisar ciervos y pavos salvajes (no creo que lleguen a acción de gracias)
The incline is the way to have some spectacular sightseen. On the ride you can see some deers and wild turkeys (I'm not sure if they'll reach thanksgiving)

Un sábado turístico y arquitectónico
Madrugón y ya estábamos en la carretera. Un día soleado y otoñal. Todo bosque y hojas de colores como compañeros de viaje. Llegamos a la casa de la cascada de Frank Lloyd Wright. Creo que no puede haber una casa tan integrada con el medio. Era espectacular. El día acompañaba muchísimo y disfrutamos del paseo entre hojas y hojas y vimos algunas vistas espectaculares, por fuera, dentro y alrededores de la casa.

Getting up early and on the road. A sunny fall day. Everything was forest and colorful leaves as trip partners. We reached the Frank Lloyd Wright’s falling waters house. I think it’s hard to see something more integrated in the environment than this one. It was spectacular. The day was perfect and we enjoyed the hike among leaves and we did also some sightseeing from the inside, the outside and the surroundings of the house.
