On our way to the nightlife (almost looks like a scene from lost highway)

Peter setting up the night (it was not going to be the last time) while enjoying some mexican delights in a mexican mall. Almost like at home...The best, the tamarindo jarritos (the bottle was so cool)

El simbolo de matutano sigue vivo. Al menos para los mejicanos. Aun asi todo eran toreadores, chipotles y otras excentricidades.

The spanish simbol for the most known chips is still alive. At least for the mexicans. However, all the chip kinds where very strange.

Tepee at a parking. I love this kind of turism: drive the car around and stop by every single item interesting to feature on a picture. Nothing better than a native american house. Thanks to this sudden stop we figured out some plans for Friday...

Thinking about joining the scientology at its point in downtown Minneapolis. It's probably the most expensive religion out there. They might offer free iq tests, but obtaining the results seems to have a price. Mi faces shows complete how little I trusted it

Thanksgiving at Minnesota

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

Finally it was the date: Thanksgiving. Most of Americans travel on the day before so I was not expecting too many problems on my way to Minneapolis and I could enjoy the dinner. The only issue was to take the plane at 6 in the morning, which did not leave me a lot of time to sleep that night. At 3:30 I was in the airport. I managed to sleep everywhere: benches, airplanes and airports til I got to the Minneapolis airport where Peter was waiting for me. Bodurtha's home was very busy and the dinner was ready soon. Around 3, turkey was on the table besides different sauces: the gravy, the filling and other cranberry sauces.

Everything was a new taste for me and it was very interesting. The most extreme experience was to try some canned cranberry sauce and then have some milk: it is quite similar to drinking orange juice right after brushing your teeth, maybe worse though.

Besides thanking everything we have many reasons to be grateful for, another special fact about thanksgiving is turkey. Turkey meat contains some chemical substance that makes you fall asleep. We sat on the coach and started watched some football and some family pictures. It did not take long til we started to snore...How powerful is turkey!

In order to get to the suburbia area where Peter lives from downtown, the motorway crosses a natural park with two wide rivers. Everything is huge in America! It was very intersting to see Minnesota at this time of the year: all the green had turned into gray. But the lakes remained there filling the landscape like they used to do during the summer.

Sun is up

Waking up with -1 is not that bad compared to yesterday trying to play tennis at 8am with -4. Today, after some work, I'll go home, take a little nap and wake up to go to the airport. I'll spend the night there because my flight leaves at 6. I'll be visiting Peter in Minneapolis....I'm so looking forward to thanks giving!!!

Otra frase

Primary goal in life: Occasion to use the phrase: "Let me through---I'm a Computer Scientist!".

Another sentence

While surfing on the Internet to learn new technologies, I ended up in the personal web page of one of the best computer guys here in CMU. In fact, he's not working here anymore, he's been hired by Google. Anyway, he ends up his web page with the following sentence:

Primary goal in life: Occasion to use the phrase: "Let me through---I'm a Computer Scientist!".

One month

It's what is left to go home for xmas. It's amazing how fast time has gone by. I still think it was yesterday when we arrived in the steel city. But it's true that always takes time to settle down on an new place. Now we even have our own locker and laundry service at the university. The perfect weapon against the evil basement washing machines that swallow all the quarters no matter if they wash or not the clothes... The only thing still pending is Steelers to win some games -although today the beat their rivals the cleveland browns (what a stupid name for a team right? I'm starting to like more and more football, despite its violence, its quite spectacular.

Another weekend has gone by at P4. We took some little trip to downtown on Saturday night thanks to Fernando, the mexican and his girlfriend Maryjane. They are very nice with us and take us to different places to discover the city. The idea was to try Matrix, the biggest disco in Pittsburgh. At the end we missed that because we were having dinner at Hooters. It's a place where the waitress wear small clothes and serve you beer and greasy chicken wings...the dream of every man...

After dinner we tried a couple of glamorous places we didn't like that much. It was interesting to see how you get your car parked or you hands washed by someone at the toilet (as long as you pay some tip). Definitely this is not my kind of nightlife..

The night ended up at P4 with Robert sleeping in our cocaine sofa covered by some coke blankets and cushions...finally our living room has been baptised!!!

Next week seems promising: thanksgiving at Minneapolis visiting my friend Peter...mmm!!!!

Asentados

Ultimamente no escribo demasiadas aventuras.

Settled

Lately I haven't been writing that much about new adventures. The reason is simple: P4 (the name of our house and also the way we name us, the 4 who live there) works perfect. Manu, Javi, Esteban and me get on well. And we have fun together.

The main concerns of P4 are, who is going to win the lunch break fuzzball game and then who is cooking tonight. The menu is not that extensive yet, but we are improving our cooking skills. Then, it's all about how many episodes of Lost can they watch on a row.

I'm not part of the Lost club because I'm more a Lynch person and I'm still watching Twin Peaks. But last Saturday I tried to introduce Lynch to P4 watching all together Lost Highway. The results: Manu sleeping, Javi not letting me choose another movie for some time and Esteban out there fixing bikes to get one for free somewhere.

I did enjoy the movie anyway and I recommend it to all the good Lynch fans...scary!

Oreo shin chan

Oreo Shin Chan

Halloween it's over, so it doesn't make sense anymore to eat some oreo with orange filling. That's why I have changed to the new Oreo Uh-Oh! (like Shin Chan screaming). However, this big change hasn't been that good...I still prefer to eat the conventional one: Much better...

Un árbol vivo

Siempre he odiado los buses, esperarlos y sufrirlos dentro.

A woken tree

I hate buses. Waiting and sweating are not for me. In spite of the free and convenient shuttle service from cmu, I have chosen to walk -until the snow decides for me. It's around half an hour of watching america inside. Houses with backyards. Backyards with leaves and squirrels eating acorns. The other day I found this woken tree... I think he was telling me: Good morning!

"Keeping geeks happy for over a quarter of a century."

A Sentence

Today I woke up in the morning and started to feel motivated to learn some more at the office and work hard. Only an email stopped me from my working activity.

It was one of those emails that cmu sends us to warn about some electrical outages or some elevator under reparation. Nothing important and very american.

Today it was about some road nearby getting shut down on Saturday. That only can harm to the must-drive people (100% here??). The thing I liked was his signature. Just great:

The Amish and crazy shopping

On Sunday the right thing to do should have been to stay in bed and rest but we had the chance to do a trip to visit the Amish. So we woke up at 9 to drive for 1 hour up north from Pittsburgh. There are two towns where some Amish live.

The Amish live like people used to on the past. They farm and don't use modern machinery. We thought they would live all by themselves, isolated from the 'normal' population, but when we got there it was striking to see how they shared the town. Cars and buggies (Amish horse car) shared the road naturally and normal houses were mixed with houses with blue doors, where a drape shows the marital status of the daughter depending on the position of the drape.

Another fact we learnt is never visit the Amish on Sunday, because it's a holy day and they spend the whole day at home praying with the family. We only got the chance to see some Amish moving from one place to another using their little wagon. I don't have pictures because they are not very keen on them. Respect is always first.

After this interesting trip we stopped on our way back home in some outlet mall and I couldn't resist to buy some ridiculously cheap clothes...

Natural landscape seen on the way...Fall is so beautiful!

Fiesta mexicana

Mexican party

On Saturday, after recovering from our boss Fernando's party with free beer and 60 people, Manu's Mexican friend Fernando invited us to a party at his place with his family and some other guests.

When we reached his house the typical Mexican family scene was there, with the smiley mother and a lot of good food. Homemade guacamole and nice chili salsa (really hot).

The party ended up being a crazy Mexican party with everyone singing Molotov and a really upset stomach for the complete Sunday. Finally I have tested how little tolerance my body has to strong Mexican chili: my tongue was burning (not literary) and not even home solutions were able to relief the pain for a while. I was dripping on my face: a really funny scene...

It's over

After a great dinner at Fernando's house (our boss) we found this pumpkin market on a church nearby. With this picture i end up my Halloween sessions..
